My cat just stole the heel of bread from my plate. Ran away with it, though it was twice the size of her head. And growled at me when I tried to take it away. Oh, my little street-rat ragamuffin.

I'm loving my new kitten.

Sara brought her to me, as it was Sara who found her - her evil neighbor chucked the poor thing out into the street. Now she is happily living at her new pad, and spreading out now that my parents' cats have left. I'm considering getting her a big brother or sister once I get her checked out by the vet. There are a bunch of kittens in the shelter, but I'm considering getting a young adult because I figure they're probably less likely to be adopted than the kittens. I could get another kitten, but I don't know.

I've been calling kitten Pigwidgeon for now. We'll see if it sticks.

I'm adopting a kitten! (I think - if all goes according to plan.) Sara's jackass neighbor keeps throwing out her pets, and there's a little gray one with my name all over it. Once my parents' cats go home, I'll have the new one move in - I don't want them to meet, because A. Xena will flip the fuck out, and B. Xena and Fark have FIV, kitty AIDS, and I don't want them to pass it on. Kitten! Any name suggestions, friends? His nmae is Jasper right now, but I'm not fully sold on that. I like non-people name for my pets.

ETA: Okay, so it's going to be a different kitty - slightly older but still young female, black and white. Fiesty, like my Xeens. Kitty.

OH NOES! They are discontinuing possibly my favorite BPAL ever, Severin. Ordering extra bottle now.

Residency is...going. This is going to be a long four years, and we're in the cushiest situation ever - a whole month of orientation. They call it Camp Carter. No one else gets that. Like anywhere. Even the other interns. We all know ER folk are the hospital's favorite - we even get ipod touches, and no one else does. But still - oi. Long. Four. Years.

Bottling my beer tonight! Woo!

ETA: I washed my bottles with dish soap instead of antibacterial hand soap. I sure hope I haven't ruined everything. :(

Oh, and I found an apartment and have been approved. Gorgeous. View of the golf course and the marina. Yes, the marina.

CSTS update

Soooo much fun with Sara last night. I had my Zoe outfit, and Sara went as the Badger-inspired Wombat, and looked awesome. Our team of stragglers won the trivia contest and got cds and shot glasses. Then Sara and I both won prizes in the costume contest and got little Janye hats on Christmas ball ornaments. Adorable! THEN we bought a cubit of raffle tickets and we won an autographed picture of ALAN TUDYK! We are awesome. Got some cools pics too, as we made friends with the guy who was taking photos of the event. Will post when they go up.

Left at 7am.
Got back at 10:30pm.

This is just orientation.
To all those who bitch about their six hour day or otherwise slack off (illness not included, of course): bite me. I've got four more years of this shit, on top of the eight I've already put in. If I can do it, you can too. Try it. :P

Now sleep - I get to be up at five tomorrow! Yay!

My Zoe belt arrived. PLUS I found the wax rub-on paint I thought I lost; and while it's kind of dried out, it worked. The buckle and belt are PERFECT. Necklace is also here and rocks. So I have shirt, necklace, pants, belt, buckle, and boots - waiting on gun/holster and vest. Woo CSTS!

I'm also delving into the world of home-brewing. It might just be Mr. Beer stuff, but if I can get it so it works well, then it opens up a world of good, cheap beer.

Looking for an apartment now; the house deal is no more.

I'm drinking Frangelico, yay!

I also now own the first real set of matching bras/panties I've ever had. Like the cute things, not the "This is a red bra, and my underpants are also red" way. Like, funky stuff, which is usually impossible to find in anything over a 34B. I even have a yellow bra with pirate skulls and stars on it! Yaaaaarg.

I'm going to get fingerprinted tomorrow, so as to make sure I'm not OMGCRAZY! for work.

Belt is here, buckle is being painted. It was silver, so I sprayed it with a hammered finish blackish color, and then I'm going to hit it with spritzes of gold. I had a wax rub on paint that would have been PERFECT, but I lost it. I used it for the steamy guns and chainsaw, but it got lost in the move.

Vest is...coming along. The leather she ordered turned out to be suede, so there was a big "Ahh!" moment, but I think we're back on track.

Holster is almost done!

And that's all she wrote!

Tomorrow night is the Dr. Horrible screening (and a derm appointment)! Fangirl shirts are ready. Yay for fun with Sara!

Got my gun, blanks and the holster is being made! Wooo! And all for less than the holster would have cost from somewhere else. Plus - possible Browncoat conversion?

So that's it - if I get these in time, then my entire costume is DONE! WOO!

I wanted to get her wooden infinity sign hair stick slide, buit...that's a pipe dream, methinks. Details, details.
So I'm looking at vinyl decals for my house, and on etsy a lot of people will make custom ones for you. So I'm thinking there have to be a couple great, very appropriate Firefly quotes that should adorn my house, but I'm falling short. Help? Morgan?

I've got some non-quote ideas, but it's difficult for home decor. I have a bunch opf Firefly travel posters, so I don't think "Browncoats Welcome" is necessary, because browncoats will recognize them.

The house is a rancher in a quiet neighborhood, overlooking woods. Maybe naming it, like "Serenity Valley Ranch" or something, with small text beneath that, like "the crappy town where I'm a hero", but...I don't know.

Costuming FTW!

Because two of my bestest friends (Sara and Minkey) have equally kick-ass Kaylee costumes, and Sara is occasionally an ass-kicking River (how perfect, seriously? Looks just like her) I have decided for this year's Can't Stop the Serenity I'd pull together a Zoe outfit.

I've got someone making me a leather Zoe vest, and someone else making me a necklace. I've got a bracelet and a shirt that will do in a pinch - it's the right length and fabric and color, but it doesn't have a collar, so I'm keeping my eyes open. I'm about to order some skinny-legged pants to tuck into some flat black boots, and I found a distressed black belt and a cheap rectangular belt buckle that I'm going to spray paint and buff up with the wax paint I used on our steampunk guns. I found a neat sawed-off toy shotgun, and while it's not a mare's leg,it's close. Paint will make it look better. My only problem is the holster.

A. She has a real mare's leg holster, and if I dropped the money for that (which makes me go ouch), I can't even be sure it'd fit right.
B. I don't know enough about guns to figure out if it would fit in a more conventional holster, and I feel a bit sill asking the gun folk.

I don't suppose anyone on my f-list has such odd knowledge.

But once I get the holster and paint the buckle, I think I'm good! I have a suede coat that I could wear if I like, but...it's gonna be June and hot. The brilliance of Firefly - you can be anything, and it's so easy to pull together and look awesome. Plus, BEST. SHOW. EVAR. *lurves*

Just got my April Fools decants - I am in TROUBLE.

I am in love with Bandito (who didn't see that one coming? NO ONE.) and Dogs Playing Poker. Nudie is nice - maybe try and track down a partial? And Panther is one sexy kitty. My favorite dark scents with just a hint of citrus to lighten it up.

Plus the fools are prtty cool - I like both Marotte and Motley.

PLUS the like, five snakes I like now. AHH! Needs. Gradumatiation. Moneys.

I R icon making. Trouble is my wacom tablet isn't calibrated on this laptop, and for some reason, I can't find the control panel option to set it up. I don't know if it's a Vista thing or what, but it makes me angry.

ETA: fixed! Man, this is the first time I can really say this part of vista pissed me off.

But guess what I got my hands on: a bottle of Quincey Morris, and one of Freak Show! I also got my snakes decants - and five out of six are real winners. Uh oh!

I'm on a Jayne/Kaylee fanific binge since watching the commentary and Joss' whole "Jayne has a little crush on Kaylee" comment. I've never read Firefly fanfic before, but some of these are pretty good. I supposed there are far fewer 14 year old authors in this fandom than in HP.

I'm also henna-ing my hair, and totally forgot to put on vaseline around my hairline. Orange ring, anyone?

Say cheese!

I had a superb weekend in DC with some old friends, some new, and some family tossed in there. Couldn't have asked for nicer weather, though it was hot as balls at some points. I should post pictures of the cupcakes Jacob and I made, but that shall have to wait.

On Sunday night we went to EatBar, which is a gastro pub in Arlington. I had samplers of steak tartar and Camembert with fig - amazing!

So today, I went to the store and went a bit cheese crazy.

In order - I tried to go mild to strong, though the Chaumes could have come first (had I known).

1) Brie: France, soft, rinned, cow's milk. Brie is brie. Smells a bit ammonia-y from the rind/Good, slightly sour but smooth. A little earthy. Grows on you.

2) Champignon Double Cream Brie with wild mushrooms: Germany, soft, rinned, cow's milk. Didn't realize this was another brie, but the mushrooms intrigued me. Faint mushroomy smell. Very nice, darker, less runny, but the hint of mushrooms in there is awesome. Little bit nutty.

3) Amish baby swiss: Ohio, firm, cow's milk. Normal mild swiss scent. Very fine bubbles, almost sweet at first. Fades into a very familiar bite. Yum.

4) Chaumes: French, soft, rinned, cow's milk. Almost non-existent smell. Very mild, creamy, almost nutty. The rind adds a nice bit of salt that really pops with my grapes. I quite like this.

5) St. Albray: France, soft, rinned, cow's milk. Holy cow, this smells to high hell. It actually tastes stronger than Camembert to me - kind of...bitter? Something in there I can't quite put my finger on. Made me go "blech!" at first...but I'm going back for more. It's very interesting, and it's nice with the sweetness of the fruit. Odd. Might not get more, but I don't think I'll chuck it.

6 )Wensleydale with cranberries: Yorkshire UK, firm, cow's milk. Smells sweet and bright. More crumbly than I expected. Sweet, bold, a teeny bit sour. The cheese itself even tastes fruity. Lingering aftertaste similar to a mild blue. Very very good - I'd get this again, and I know they have it with cherries or apricots, too!

7) Buttermilk Blue: Wisconsin, semi-soft, raw cow's milk. Aged over 60 days. Straight up good old fashioned stinky blue scent. Tons of lovely blue veins and valleys. Surprisingly creamy. Strong soury blue taste; can hold its own anywhere. Loves it.

How did I miss a goat's milk in here?

So yay for cheeses I didn't know existed! Yay for grapes! I think the Wenslydale is my favorite from these, with the mushroom brie a close second.

Yay!

So I'm home for the moment before heading back to York and down to DC tomorrow. I just got my Shop It To Me weekly email (thanks, Margo!) and those Axele boots I bought a while back? I was so sad cause I had to return them because they were too small. I'm a PERFECT size 10. Always. If your size 10 doesn't fit me, there's something wrong with it (side note - designer shoes are always way too small - I can barely fit in an 11 in Manolos and Pradas). ANYWHOS - I paid 79.99 for the pair from Amazon, but by the time I tried them on and went looking to exchange - the price had jumped to $129.99! No way, sir. So I was all depressed and thought I'd never get them.

UNTIL TODAY! There they were, on SITM, for $69.99 with free shipping! Joy of joys! Yay shoes!

On another happy note, I got my dress for graduation today! Pictures to follow....eventually.

PLUS - for us BPALers - Planting Moon is GREAT, at least in the bottle. It's earthy without being overbearing like Graveyard Dirt, and green without being herbal, and yes, there's tomato leaf in it! Woooo! So pleased. I must get swapping/selling - my box is full!
